Hello!
I came upon your web site by chance, looking for a John Mood, & had a surprise to find a few!   My gggrandfather was John Mood   b Newcastle, 1830. He moved to Edinburgh with his wife & I always assumed Mood was a scottish name. There are other Moods in Scotland - it would be interesting to discover the origins. (my maiden name was Mood!)
You have a very interesting & well structured web site.
Best wishes Janet

Hi Gillian,
You have done a marvellous job with your site and wonderful for you to share it with us.

I am the Great -Grandaughter of Rebecca Hardwick born 1866 Whitwell daughter of Charlotte Candlin & Thomas Hardwick.

On the 1881 census for Thomas Rotherham you will notice Rebecca Hardwick was a servant to the family.

Interesting enough Rebeccas G-father George Hardwick married to Rebecca ? (later becoming Brearley) was a tailor. When widowed Rebecca was the toll gate keeper in Whitwell 1851

Their daughter Rebecca b 1840 Whitwell married Frederick Charles Upton,b c1842

Hi Gillian
This is Nigel Robinson, Ethel Dodd's(Whipps') grandson.   My brother Steve found your site and sent me the link.   Amazing site...especially the photo of all the Whipps kids together.   This must have been a huge job! Thanks for your efforts.

Gillian ,
this is obviously the product of some very hard work !My name's Steve Robinson , son of Berenice Robinson ( nee Dodd ) . My mum's Ethel Dodd's ( nee Whipps ) daughter . I was trying to look into the family tree myself but didn't have the time so i'm now directing the family to your site .
I now live in Spain ( Madrid ) , so my friends here have been fascinated to see the old photos !
If I can add anything to your site ( info or pics ) I'll certainly try and get in touch .

Steve .

Hello Gillian

I was pleased to make contact regarding the Rotherham family and to discover their link to the Butcher family through Thomas Rotherham's second wife.   It is always satisfying to embellish the bare bones of a family tree with a human interest story.

Congratulations on producing such an inspiring website.   I will contact you again after my next trip to Whitwell.

Happy hunting

Best regards

Anne Wilson

Hello Gillian, Terry Hobdell here, I like your web site and I have looked at the photo's for the Whipps family. The photo that shows Gladys Mary Hullin, looks like a younger version of the photo I have for her when she married Fredrick Holloway.
all the best family hunting Terry.

Hi Gill, I really enjoyed looking at your website, The name LUMMIS caught my eye as I worked with a Hilda Lummis back in the early seventies when we were both Psychiatric Nurses in Ipswich, Suffolk. I cannot tell whether there is any family connection though. Best wishes and many thanks.

Hi Gill

Nice site. It's good to see some of the family on there.   It gave me the boot I needed to get going on my own site, which I've now started.

Hi Gill, I can't be outdone by my Aunt Beryl so thought I'd stick a note on too!

Your work has been a revelation and has inspired me to try and trace my Nan's (Cecil's wife) side of the family also.

Facinating stuff!!

Hello Gill,   thought I'd say how much I enjoyed looking at the photos. I am so pleased that you decided to put this all together for the use of all of us. Very much appreciate the research you've done here. love from your sister, Pat.XXX

Hello Gill - this is your cousin Beryl. I remember your mum and dad and our grandmother well (being somewhat older than you!) How lovely to see the photographs, though I have to say I   felt quite tearful to think that all the original 14 Whipps children are now gone. What a sensational looking family they were. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
